Oak will usually accept laser engraved text but it would be best to choose a different wood if you plan to have a more detailed image engraved on your cremation urn.

Mahogany cremation urns are popular because of the woods deep reddish color and beautiful even grain. Mahogany cremation urns are very durable and will weather well for generations. However, the same deep colors that make mahogany so popular prevent us from engraving laser images. So we do not offer engraving on our mahogany cremation urns.
Walnut cremation urns
Walnut cremation urns are an American favorite. The deep brown color of walnut and its even grain make it an excellent choice for high quality cremation urns. Due to its color walnut is not a good choice for engraving laser images. It has also become difficult to obtain large quantities of walnut so it is difficult to find discount walnut cremation urns.
Cherry cremation urns
Cherry cremation urns are the most popular wood cremation urns. Since cherry wood cremation urns have a naturally light color they will accept laser engraving very well. However, over time cherry wood tends to develop a deep reddish color giving the wood it popularity. Cherry wood may be the best choice for a person who valued quality or fine things. Even though it has a delicate look cherry cremation urns are some of the most durable.
Maple cremation urns
Maple cremation urns are the best wooden cremation urns to use for laser engraving. Maple is a particularly good choice, if you plan to engrave a photographic image or long text or verse such as a poem. Because of it’s light color and even tightly spaced grain it takes a number of stains well. Maple is in good supply and can be found at reasonable prices. Maple may be the best value for your wood cremation urn.
